i just read your correspondence about the timeline in neanderthal... there is a very nice movie by karel zeman from 1956 (or was it 1958?) about this... it's about three boys who do a little journey in a small boat and they happen to pass a magical cavern, thus coming into such a time scale... by and by they row down the river and actually through all times on earth to meet all those curious creatures on their way until they finally come near the origin of life while reaching the ocean... it's very sweet because of the early and comparatively "primitive" animations of the mammoths, dinos a.s.o. - absolutely revolutionary for that time of course - and the extremely slow tempo of the whole film... my daughter loves it...
